Frank Lloyd Wright

Though the life and work of the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright could probably yield enough material for several documentaries, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick skillfully map out Wright’s rise, fall, and astonishing comeback in two gripping 90-minute episodes. Using archival footage of Wright and interviews with some of his closest confidants, descendants, colleagues and critics, Burns and Novick paint a portrait of a deeply passionate man committed to achieving his artistic aims, even in the face of very public scandals and tragedies. Most importantly, one need not have experience with architecture to follow the story or understand the complex subject matter. Nominated for Best Documentary at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival.
