IN SEARCH OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS joins romantic couples and enthusiasts from all over the world as they converge on Tromsø, one of Norway’s northernmost towns, to marvel at this awesome sight. This mini-series is lavishly illustrated with imposing views of the Lights never before seen on television. Renowned photographer Ole Christian Salomonsen, who has specialized in the Northern Lights, takes us on an exciting quest for the ultimate picture of this unique phenomenon. Internationally acclaimed for his films and photographs of this breathtaking spectacle, Salomonsen has contributed greatly to the burgeoning increase in Northern Lights tourism. Can one make a living from the Northern Lights? That’s what Trine is determined to find out. Although people come from far and wide to visit the small company she has recently set up, she has not yet dared to give up her job as a nursing auxiliary; in a good season, however, she may be able to fulfill her dream of living off the Lights. According to Kjetil, a Northern Lights guide, more and more young people from Europe, Asia and the United States are looking to the Lights to set the seal on their love for each other. One of them, Chris from England, has persuaded his girlfriend Sarah to accompany him to Tromsø, where he plans to propose in the Lights’ eerie glow. But first he has to find them. Every year, in winter, Kjetil assists people young and old who wish to propose to their loved ones beneath the Northern Lights, as well as happily married couples who seek the Lights’ blessing. Now he is searching for the Lights to help Chris carry out his plan. But there are times when the Clerk of the Weather refuses to cooperate, as now, when a snowstorm threatens to spoil it all. Finding the right moment is going to be quite a challenge! The Northern Lights have long been enveloped in an aura of mystery and superstition, and we also learn some of the ancient myths and traditions attaching to this natural extravaganza.
