French filmmaker Chris Marker's extraordinary homage to his friend and colleague, Andrei Tarkovsky, who died in 1986, is a fitting tribute to one of the world's greatest filmmakers. Through close readings of Tarkovsky's films - including rare scenes from student films and a practically unknown stage production - Marker attempts to locate Tarkovsky in his work. With behind-the-scenes footage of Tarkovsky on set and candid moments of Tarkovsky with his family, bedridden but still working on the editing of his final film, Marker's film is a personal and loving portrait of the monumental filmmaker.
