synopsis
The first week of school integration in New Orleans is marked by violent demonstrations of hatred by white parents as their children look on.
"Filmmaker Richard Leacock went to New Orleans in the first days of school desegregation and came back with riveting images of a mother and daughter who refuse to boycott an integrated school, being jeered by a pack of white parents with babes in arms. The crowd hounds them all the way home, and then begins pounding on their windows and doors. The wide eyes of the six-year-old student and her siblings communicate fear. The feeling of being there is electrifying. - Jill Drew, daughter-in-law of Robert Drew and General Manager of Drew Associates"
